The Belvedere Memorial Service

It is very common that leading up to celebrations such Birthdays, Weddings or other such events that we begin to think about and remember our loved ones no longer with us. It is not uncommon to start remembering our parents, grandparents, friends and family that have left us particularly before the Christmas Holidays. Though we are looking forward to the festivities, there is a sadness when remembering our loved ones. When speaking to our staff, residents and relatives we began to think about what we could do for all of us at Belvedere, to come together, share our emotions and support each other. The first Belvedere Memorial Service, was then held in November 2012. It is now an important annual ceremony in the Belvedere Events calendar.

The Memorial Service at Belvedere, is a beautiful heartfelt event held in November annually.  The large dining room is transformed into a beautiful space decorated with flowers, candles and white balloons. Residents, relatives, staff and relatives of residents whom have passed, are invited to come together to remember our lost, loved ones. The lighting of candles, hanging of hearts on the tree, the poems, the songs and the release of white balloons symbolise that are loved ones will never be forgotten. The service may bring closure, may uplift and reminds us all that grief and loss is felt differently.

The Memorial service was conducted by Fr. Brian, Parish priest of St. Anthony’s Church and Resurrection Church, Noble Park. We take this opportunity for all the residents, relatives, past relatives and staff for attending. After the service, all in attendance enjoyed an afternoon tea and reminiscence of their loved ones.

The Service was organised by our Diversional Therapist Rosalind. We take this opportunity to thank Rosalind for organising, decorating and co-ordinating this beautiful service.
